Nesting in the Garden

Baby geese are running around everywhere!

But

Mommy and Daddy Geese hide them so well I haven't been able to get up close to get their pictures. What I was able to find were nests and eggs that haven't as yet hatched. So pretend that you can hear the geese squawking as you look over nesting...

All the geese have paired off, now that it is Spring. All of the geese here are Northerns, except for one Snow Goose. I was thinking how lonely she must be now that there is all this pairing going on. Today when I was exploring the berm along the lake, I was walking up the crest of the berm and heard a loud H-I-S-S. And then I saw the couple on the nest.

I was so surprised! I can't wait to see what the goslings will look like.

I found this nest abandoned. I'm not sure if it is for a new couple or for one of the family groups that you see walking at a distance, but I think it is beautiful.
